A wedding favour is a a small gift from the bride and groom given to their wedding guests as a gesture of their appreciation or gratitude for sharing their special day.
Our Perfectly Posh favours ensure that your guests have a special little keepsake to help them remember your special day. |
The first wedding favours were know as 'Bonbonierre' these were common amongst European aristocrats. The contents of these bonbonierre were delicate sugar cubes or confections which symbolized wealth and royalty. |
During this period sugar was such an expensive commodity that it was only available to the rich.
As sugar became more affordable bonbonierres were replaced with almonds and the modern day wedding favour was born.
Once the modern day favour was developed it meant that the tradition of giving wedding favours to guests became much more common practice.
Traditionally five sugared almonds are placed in a confection box or other little bag and wrapped elegantly with ribbon.
The five almonds are said to represent health, wealth, happiness, fertility and long life. The bitterness of the almond and the sweetness of the candy are said to exemplify the bitter sweetness of marriage. | |
